$3.8M scrap car crash in Japan claims 8 Ferraris, a Lambo... and a Prius
In a news flash that has car enthusiasts shaking their heads, a 14 car pileup in Japan has been billed as the world's most expensive scrap car accident.
Two Ferrari F430s, two Ferrari F355s, two Ferrari 360 Modenas, two unspecified Ferarris, a Lamborghini Diablo, three Mercedes-Benzs, a Nissan GT-R — and a Toyota Prius — ended up in a pile of steaming scrap metal on the Chugoku Expressway, Yamaguchi Prefecture. They were part of a twenty supercar convoy heading to Hiroshima for a gathering of supercar enthusiasts this past Sunday. The lead Ferrari fishtailed into a guardrail on a stretch of wet roads and the following cars crashed in an attempt to avoid the Ferrari. While the speed limit was 80km/h, the group was traveling an estimated 160km/h and the resulting scrap car debris was spread over 400 metres.
